Heiner Müller: Hamletmaschine
Thanks to Sunnyi Melles for remembering him and reminding us on the occasion of the Salzburg Festival opening 2009.
A local's views on Salzburg, Austria, Europe, and the world, as inspired by photographs from his digital camera, the weather, "Sound of Music", the world at large, and nasty, dark spots in his home town and country
Sorry, as I've worked on this for quite a while, let me give you the correct quote in Heiner Müller's very own typography, and let me add that here, as so often, he quoted himself – it's taken from his earlier play Zement / Cement:
ReplyDeleteWIE EINEN BUCKEL SCHLEPP ICH MEIN SCHWERES GEHIRN
ZWEITER CLOWN IM KOMMUNISTISCHEN FRÜHLING
and one more line from a little later in the play; speaker now identified as "Hamletdarsteller":
"Ich gehe nach Hause und schlage die Zeit tot, einig/Mit meinem ungeteilten Selbst."
It might be interesting to come back to reading or staging Heiner Müller, whose plays have been reduced to 'fashionable' quotes/accessories in dubious 'Regietheater'-stagings of other plays; e.g. Moliere's 'Tartuffe' turned into a political doomsday fantasy by adding Müller-quotes from "Schlacht" to the last act. Neither Moliere nor Müller have done anything to deserve this approach. And I absof***inglutely hate it in all modesty.
